1. The success of the Paris Agreement depends on continually more ambitious efforts to control emissions. A conference of 193 nations is underway in Bonn until May 10 to plan ways to bring that about. Active US regions, cities, and industries will be represented, though the US government has welched on its $2 billion commitment to the process. https://mailchi.mp/climatenewsnetwork/boost-planned-for-global-climate-treaty?e=ea792e87f2

The US delegation is making no positive contribution to the talks but, so far, has not played a blocking role. https://insideclimatenews.org/news/03052018/un-climate-talks-trump-negotiators-bonn-pompeo-bolton-kudlow-foreign-policy?utm_source=EHN&utm_campaign=b28c4a9483-RSS_EMAIL_CAMPAIGN&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_8573f35474-b28c4a9483-99031877

2. Despite the Trumpettes, the US is the second most attractive renewables market after China. Germany and India placed third and fourth. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-renewables-investment/u-s-moves-up-to-second-most-attractive-renewables-market-after-china-report-idUSKBN1I2352

3. A heating climate is increasingly benign for the lone star tick, whose bite can transmit an allergy to red meat. https://grist.org/article/lone-star-ticks-are-a-carnivores-nightmare-and-theyre-just-waking-up/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=newsletter&utm_campaign=daily

4. The north shore of Kauai got 49 inches of rain in one day, an indicator of the possibilities of a new atmosphere rich in water vapor. It may be a world record. https://www.climateliabilitynews.org/2018/05/03/hawaii-49-inches-rain-climate-change/

5. 1.5C of warming would increase flooding of 11% of the global land area; 2C would increase floods for 21%. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2018/05/180502120007.htm

6. Global methane emissions are rising. The source is biological, but the cause is in debate. https://www.economist.com/news/science-and-technology/21741133-potent-greenhouse-gas-scientists-struggle-explain-worrying-rise?utm_source=EHN&utm_campaign=b28c4a9483-RSS_EMAIL_CAMPAIGN&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_8573f35474-b28c4a9483-99031877

7. A "ghostly and magical map of Antarctica" is shaded to indicate ice thickness. https://climatecrocks.com/2018/05/03/ghostly-and-magical-map-of-antarctica/ ?
