1. The Trump administration has cancelled the NASA program to monitor global carbon emissions. Some of the monitoring functions of the program are expected to be picked up in Europe. http://www.sciencemag.org/news/2018/05/trump-white-house-quietly-cancels-nasa-research-verifying-greenhouse-gas-cuts

2. Hurricane Harvey was supercharged with water by record high temperatures in the Gulf of Mexico. We need to prepare for more such storms. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2018/05/180510133045.htm

3. If Hurricane Irma had stayed on course and come ashore on Florida's east coast, it would have brought a twenty-foot storm surge. Jack Black profiled climate awareness in South Florida in six minutes for the series Years of Living Dangerously. In a brief interview at the bottom of the story, Jeff Goodell observes that few in South Florida-developer, politician, or property owner-appear to have a longer planning horizon than 5-7 years. https://climatecrocks.com/2018/05/14/pre-traumatic-stress-disorder-jack-black-on-miamis-sea-level-denial/

I must mention the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact, which has done more planning than any other group in FL, though they have not yet succeeded in producing a full climate action plan. The Regional Climate Action Plan might be called a plan to plan. http://www.southeastfloridaclimatecompact.org/

4. Tesla's big battery in South Australia has cut their frequency and ancillary services costs 90%. That is money which might have gone to diesel generators and gas turbine peaking plants. Those are in trouble, and that is good for the climate. https://climatecrocks.com/2018/05/16/teslas-giant-battery-saving-consumers-huge-dollars-gas-turbines-in-trouble/

5. India is constructing hybrid wind-solar plants, which use the partly complementary production periods of the two sources. The projects will remain fairly small until the companies develop the technology to integrate the two. https://qz.com/1278102/wind-solar-hybrids-in-india-windmills-and-solar-panels-used-together-can-maximise-renewables-production/

6. Link TV is running a series of 25-minute videos on climate change adaptation. The three shows so far are on attempts to cope with flooding in the New Orleans area, climate migration, and city planning. They stream on Thursdays (but remain posted on the Link TV site). https://www.linktv.org/shows/earth-focus/episodes/sea-level-rising-living-with-water ?
