1. Phononic, Inc., of North Carolina is manufacturing refrigeration units which use less energy and take up less room than traditional compressor coolers and use no greenhouse gas-emitting fluids. The article does not address scheduling the manufacture of home refrigerators, but the technology is now being applied in industry and transportation. https://nexusmedianews.com/a-clever-fix-to-the-biggest-climate-problem-5d6362a0dbe8

2. A Danish study finds that salesmen steer buyers away from electric cars. Because they require less maintenance than gasoline cars electrics provide smaller profits for the dealerships. https://reneweconomy.com.au/car-dealers-dont-want-sell-electric-vehicles-35648/?utm_source=RE+Daily+Newsletter&utm_campaign=e501eb1e97-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2018_05_22&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_46a1943223-e501eb1e97-40325881

3. Quebec is establishing a public fast-charging network for electric cars financed by revenues from the network itself. It is doubling the number of EVs every year to reach an objective of a million electric cars by 2030. A public petition for an ambitious charging plan seems to have contributed to the development. A similar petition led to Quebec's Zero Emissions Law. https://cleantechnica.com/2018/05/21/quebec-plan-to-roll-out-ev-fast-charging-network-re-invest-revenue/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+IM-cleantechnica+%28CleanTechnica%29

4. China has developed a double-sided solar cell which can increase power production 10% by using light reflected by a light-colored roof. A plan to equip cells to produce power from falling raindrops is further from commercial application. https://thinkprogress.org/breakthrough-solar-panel-can-harvest-power-from-raindrops-day-or-night-3a2ce74f9060/

5. The Cocoon Smart Home in Santo Domingo harvests and purifies rainwater, grows vegetables, and produces power from solar, wind, and geothermal generators. https://inhabitat.com/the-cocoon-smart-home-will-harvest-rainwater-solar-energy-and-organic-veggies-in-the-caribbean/ Further stories of interest are listed on the sidebar.

6. Each of the three big extinctions in earth's past so far studied (out of five total) have been linked to low oxygen levels in the oceans. Interference with circulation patterns seems to have led to the anoxia. The studies are reminiscent of current developments in our oceans. https://phys.org/news/2018-05-scientists-widespread-ocean-anoxia-mass.html ?
