1. Nitrous oxide is 300 times more powerful as a greenhouse gas than CO2, and an ozone danger to boot. It can persist in the atmosphere for over a hundred years. Thawing permafrost releases about twelve times more nitrous oxide than previously thought. It will probably no longer be ignored in analyses of climate change in the Arctic. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2019/04/190415090848.htm

2. Wave power has not developed as fast as sun or wind, but some promising generators are being tested. They are becoming more efficient in converting wave motion to electricity but are likely to be used mostly in isolated areas not suitable for other renewable energy sources. https://www.fastcompany.com/90335319/could-wave-power-be-the-next-boom-in-renewable-energy?partner=rss

3. The Network for Greening the Financial System, organized in 2017, represents half of global emissions and most of the globally important central banks and insurers. In its first comprehensive report it urges financial institutions to aid in the conversion to renewable energy called for by the IPCC during the next few years. The network sets four goals. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/apr/17/the-financial-sector-must-be-at-the-heart-of-tackling-climate-change

The industry is key to achieving a low-carbon economy, say Mark Carney, François Villeroy de Galhau and Frank Elderson

4. An article analyzes the significance of the report by the Network. The financial system faces gigantic losses unless it anticipates the energy transition; the Network is choosing to be proactive. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2019/apr/17/mark-carney-tells-global-banks-they-cannot-ignore-climate-change-dangers

5. I do not find any US institutions in the Network for Greening the Financial System, though the US is a member of the OECD and the World Bank, which are observers though not members of the Network. The Peoples Bank of China is one of the 35 members. https://www.banque-france.fr/en/financial-stability/international-role/network-greening-financial-system/about-us

The Central Banks and Supervisors Network for Greening the Financial System (NGFS) is a group of Central Banks and Supervisors willing, on a voluntary basis, to exchange experiences, share best practices, contribute to the development of environment and climate risk management in the financial sector, and to mobilize mainstream finance to support the transition toward a sustainable economy.

6. Where homeowners with rooftop solar can sell excess power to the grid, it makes more economic sense not to add a home battery to the system. Thanks to Tom Larson for the story. https://www.futurity.org/home-battery-electricity-solar-panels-2036942-2/
