The nonbinding resolution, backed by the Ready For 100 Chicago Collective, points to the kind of extreme weather including catastrophic flooding the region is already experiencing.

Economists have workable policy ideas for addressing climate change. But what if they’re politically impossible?

Among other emendations, I would include the observation that a climate solution presupposes the support of a community, which we now need to rebuild after the depredations of the market anarchists. The reconstructive, equity restoration, and social justice provisions of the Green New Deal are likely to be necessary preconditions of effective climate action in the US.

5. Many wealthy players are reacting to climate change by stepping up the looter’s tactics already implicit in the carbon economy. Some lie to themselves in the process, but most, like Rex Tillerson, do not bother. Others predict a bursting of the carbon bubble, with severe consequences. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2019/04/11/magazine/climate-change-exxon-renewable-energy.html?em_pos=small&emc=edit_ma_20190412&nl=magazine&nl_art=2&nlid=43628374emc%3Dedit_ma_20190412&ref=headline&te=1

Investors are finally paying attention to climate change — though not in the way you might hope.

5. The NY Times Magazine provides links at the bottom of the previous item to other stories in this special issue. I recommend Nathaniel Rich, The Next Reckoning: Capitalism and Climate Change. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2019/04/09/magazine/climate-change-capitalism.html After that you might revisit McKibben in item one.
