1. A new study highlights the major role that planting a trillion trees could play in sequestering carbon. https://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2019-07/ezdo-tgt062719.php
The Science article is The Global Tree Restoration Potential by Jean-Francois Bastin et al., 5 July 2019. It is primarily dedicated to assessing the areas which could be forested, both now and under increasing greenhouse heat. It does not appear to address the last two years’ findings on arboreal methane emissions. Even if the sequestration potential needs to be moderated for tree emissions, the geographical argument remains a source of hope for emissions control. 5. Most of us are replacing our lost beef with oats and garbanzos. The planetary health diet allows some seafood—though overfishing, habitat degradation, and destructive aquaculture practices make eating seafood a problematic choice. One partial exception is the oyster, which cleans water while waiting to be eaten. If that thought does not confirm you as a vegan, watch out for the bacteria in the raw ones. https://www.outsideonline.com/2398648/oyster-farming-environment

6. One way to handle relocations under the pressure of a changing climate is by establishing sustainable communities. A Dutch study shows that microgrids can allow them to be more completely self-sufficient smarthoods. https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/vbngmd/decentralized-microgridding-can-provide-90-of-a-neighborhoods-energy-needs-study-finds?fbclid=IwAR1D-L51c77JpwvusOQaio37gRHRLvqQIT79qBudV0U-lwJeaOxoHlWWFYo
