1. This overview of CO2 emissions by nation features two interactive maps which graph each country’s history by gross emissions and share of global emissions. Thanks to Ed Brock for the lesson. https://ourworldindata.org/annual-co2-emissions

2. Unusually high sea level rise along the US east coast is killing forests and moving marshes inland. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2019/10/08/climate/ghost-forests.html

3. CA’s Coastal Commission requires all coastal governments to have adaptation plans which include retreat. Del Mar is contesting that, stating that their land is too valuable and they have no place to go. https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2019-10-06/del-mar-state-remain-at-odds-on-how-to-deal-with-sea-level-rise

4. The materials for buildings embody 11% of global emissions. Wooden buildings and zero emissions cement can cut that number significantly. https://cleantechnica.com/2019/10/08/buildings-account-for-11-of-global-emissions-here-are-two-ways-to-slash-that-number/?utm_source=CleanTechnica+News&utm_campaign=eb43aaecbb-Daily+Email+CAMPAIGN&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_b9b83ee7eb-eb43aaecbb-331994013

5. Building operations contribute another 29% of emissions. Green building for energy efficiency and efficient operations will lower the figure. https://www.iea.org/topics/energyefficiency/buildings/

The US Green Building Council is dedicated to reducing emissions through energy efficient building and operations. https://www.usgbc.org/articles/green-building-101-why-energy-efficiency-important

6. 20 firms have been responsible for 35% of all CO2 and CH4 emissions since 1965. Michael Mann: “The great tragedy of the climate crisis is that seven and a half billion people must pay the price – in the form of a degraded planet – so that a couple of dozen polluting interests can continue to make record profits. It is a great moral failing of our political system that we have allowed this to happen.” https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2019/oct/09/revealed-20-firms-third-carbon-emissions

7. A World Mayors Summit representing 90 of the largest cities has criticized the weak action at the UN climate meeting last week. The US, Brazil, Australia, Russia, and Turkey are now guided by the interests of the fossil fuel industry, and the mayors must take leadership. https://www.theguardian.com/cities/2019/oct/09/global-mayors-denounce-failed-un-climate-summit-c40-conference
