1. Sea level rise is regularly reported to be 3.2 mm/year, a figure derived from satellite measurements in the 1990s and reported by the IPCC in 2014. A ten-year average now places the rise at 4.8 mm/year (around 2 inches a decade) and accelerating. Greenland is contributing an increasing portion of the rise, according to a study done for Science magazine. https://science.sciencemag.org/content/370/6519/901.summary

2. A joint EU-US project is putting the Sentinel-6 satellite, which is the size of a minivan, into orbit to keep watch on sea level until 2030. Its companion is scheduled for launch in 2025. https://phys.org/news/2020-11-satellite-track-seas-climate.html
The Sentinel-6 looks like a dog kennel, as the BBC observes. https://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-55022567

3. China is leading a switch to electric vehicles which could reduce the expected growth of global oil demand 70% by 2030. Loss of demand in the emerging markets “will bring the oil era to an end.” https://carbontracker.org/shift-to-electric-vehicles-in-emerging-markets-will-end-oil-era/

4. The U of Liverpool is learning how to print solar pv cells on solar sails so that power may be generated in the continual sunlight of space and beamed to earth by electromagnetic waves. An orbiting solar power station under development by China is expected to provide a steady 2 GW by 2050. https://techxplore.com/news/2020-11-solar-power-stations-space-energy.html?utm_source=nwletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=daily-nwletter

5. Ads might lead you to believe that oil companies are working hard to develop biofuels from algae or that gas companies have discovered responsible uses for their product. The ad agencies which produce such misleading messages are beginning to obey the ethical imperative to seek other venues for their talents. https://www.newyorker.com/news/daily-comment/when-creatives-turn-destructive-image-makers-and-the-climate-crisis?utm_source=nl&utm_brand=tny&utm_mailing=TNY_Daily_112120&utm_campaign=aud-dev&utm_medium=email&bxid=5be9cafe24c17c6adf39e724&cndid=18164692&hasha=8c547d53af6ff6fc7d49cb8612c07102&hashb=e0cd75d11efd01a0b77ab9e6aebc9acfab41dac0&hashc=fe17c36079354ec46082a9a7c8fc19c8d3b811c991613e650512e53c322cb659&esrc=CDS_OP&utm_term=TNY_Daily
