1. The world’s largest solar farm is proposed for Australia where 2/3 of its power will supply 1/5 of Singapore’s needs by undersea cables and replace increasingly expensive gas power. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/oct/21/australian-outback-cattle-station-to-house-worlds-largest-solar-farm-powering-singapore

2. Corporate purchase of renewable energy is going up 45% this year. https://www.solarpowerworldonline.com/2020/10/corporate-renewable-energy-procurement-growth-2020/

3. Savings in the US from a conversion to renewable energy sources amount to up to $321 billion a year or $2,500 a household if the appliances and auto are electric. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/oct/22/us-renewable-energy-costs-savings-study-report

4. In the final debate with Trump, Joe Biden said that he would “transition (from) the oil industry” in a move to renewable power. Though he fudged the statement later--“We’re not getting rid of fossil fuels for a long time”--it is implied in his target of zero emissions by 2035. https://grist.org/politics/trump-goads-biden-into-saying-hell-phase-out-fossil-fuels-at-final-debate/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=newsletter&utm_campaign=daily
I am glad to have Biden so publicly clear on what must happen to the fossil fuel industry. I look forward to Biden’s acknowledgement that gas must also go. It’s no news to the industry or to anyone who knows anything about the issue, but that did not include many Americans, now better informed about our necessary future.

5. Nuclear, gas, and coal power plants often use significant volumes of water for cooling—about 10% of the US fresh water consumption, and a greater percentage in some regions. As areas pass into water stress the future of the plants will be that much more uncertain, in this country and elsewhere. Wind and solar plants use little or no water. https://climatecrocks.com/2020/10/22/climate-water-are-risks-for-nuclear-gas-coal/
