1. Regenerative agriculture, a feature of climate action, is part of the legacy of George Washington Carver. https://grist.org/fix/george-washington-carver-environmental-legacy/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=newsletter&utm_campaign=daily

2. Florida is one of four states which do not allow the leasing of solar panels, a way for individuals and, say, schools with electric school busses to finance cheap solar power. The U of Central Florida has estimated that allowing such power purchase agreements would produce 25,000 jobs and enough power to satisfy Miami. https://www.theinvadingsea.com/2021/02/13/lawmakers-should-allow-floridas-schools-to-install-solar-panels-that-will-save-them-money-and-educate-students/

3. Rooftop solar should actually lower electric rates for everyone, according to a new analysis. An opposite claim, casting solar as an elite affectation which raises costs on everyone else, is often used in power industry propaganda. https://www.treehugger.com/rooftop-solar-benefits-neighbors-5112473?utm_campaign=treehugger&utm_medium=email&utm_source=cn_nl&utm_content=22942854&utm_term=

4. Ikea is making heroic efforts to become “climate positive” by 2030, in part by becoming 100% circular through eliminating waste and designing products which can be used indefinitely through repair or recycled. They are also offering a new and tastier plant-based meatball. https://grist.org/climate/ikeas-ambitious-plan-to-make-its-cheap-furniture-last-forever/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=newsletter&utm_campaign=daily

5. Magnesium hydroxide reacts with CO2 to form magnesium carbonates which can then be used for such products as bricks and flooring, sequestering the carbon. A new way of producing magnesium hydroxide with low or no carbon emissions promises to support effective carbon removal and sequestration by mineralization. https://phys.org/news/2021-02-common-mineral-key-tackling-climate.html

6. Molly Burhans is an unusually talented geographer who is working to enlist the Vatican in climate action through better use of its land holdings. Thanks to Dick Bizot for the recommendation. https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2021/02/08/how-a-young-activist-is-helping-pope-francis-battle-climate-change

7. Poor neighborhoods are likely to be hotter and to have less central air conditioning, and Black and Latino children are more likely to live there. The heat causes them problems even before birth. Adaptation is a social and racial justice problem. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/feb/16/the-life-altering-effects-heat-is-having-on-american-children
