1. This week President Biden will be presented with a draft of a $3 trillion (some say 4) bill with the general goal of climate action, including infrastructure building, higher education support, and social justice measures. This WA Post article sketches what is known about it. I usually don’t run stories on pending legislation, but I intend to follow this one. Plans to fund it include higher taxes on corporations and the wealthy, and mandated lower drug prices, which will lower government health care expenses. https://www.washingtonpost.com/us-policy/2021/03/22/infrastructure-biden-drug-reform/?utm_campaign=Carbon%20Brief%20Daily%20Briefing&utm_content=20210323&utm_medium=email&utm_source=Revue%20Daily

2. A NY Times article on the climate legislation adds material, particularly on the funding. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/03/22/business/biden-infrastructure-spending.html?utm_campaign=Carbon%20Brief%20Daily%20Briefing&utm_content=20210323&utm_medium=email&utm_source=Revue%20Daily

3. A second Times article adds more on the social justice provisions, including the construction of a million affordable and energy-efficient housing units. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/03/22/us/politics/biden-infrastructure-climate-equality.html?utm_campaign=Carbon%20Brief%20Daily%20Briefing&utm_content=20210323&utm_medium=email&utm_source=Revue%20Daily

4. We may well have hit peak gas in the US. The planned projects for Texas, for example, lean heavily to renewables plus batteries. A Morgan Stanley analysis shows renewables passing gas for power generation in 2028. https://climatecrocks.com/2021/03/23/peak-gas-coming-sooner-than-you-thought/

5. We may attain peak meat consumption by 2025. “Avoiding conventional meat and dairy products is the single biggest way to reduce your environmental impact on the planet, according to scientists. Regular meat consumption was recently linked to a raised risk of heart disease, diabetes and pneumonia.” https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/mar/23/europe-and-us-could-reach-peak-meat-in-2025-report?utm_campaign=Carbon%20Brief%20Daily%20Briefing&utm_content=20210324&utm_medium=email&utm_source=Revue%20Daily#:~:text=The%20fast%20growth%20of%20plant,fall,%20according%20to%20a%20report.
