1. Analysis by the Potsdam Institute warns that the use of hydrogen as a power source would lock us into the use of fossil fuels and impede the energy transition. In fact, the use of hydrogen would produce more greenhouse gas emissions than the straight use of fossil fuels. The article is published in Nature Climate Change. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/may/06/hydrogen-fuel-risks-reliance-on-fossil-fuels

2. The scheduled first production run of the electric Ford Mach-E is now wholly reserved. https://carbuzz.com/news/is-the-ford-mustang-mach-e-now-officially-sold-out#:~:text=Ford%20previously%20stated%20that%20the%20Mach-E%27s%20global%20production,out%20within%20the%20first%20quarter%20of%20the%20year.
New Tesla cars are reported to be sold out for this quarter. https://www.thestreet.com/investing/tesla-cars-reportedly-sold-out-for-second-quarter
The “launch edition” of the Chevrolet Bolt EUV, not available until sometime this summer, is entirely reserved. (I understand that other Bolt models to be produced this year may still be reserved.) https://www.reddit.com/r/StockMarket/comments/lz443o/gm_2022_bolt_euv_launch_edition_now_sold_out/?utm_source=BD&utm_medium=Search&utm_name=Bing&utm_content=PSR1
The Lucid Air luxury electric sedan, due sometime late this year, has been entirely reserved. https://www.fool.com/investing/2021/03/24/lucid-motors-has-sold-out-all-of-its-170000-air-se/
That accounts for all the battery electric cars scheduled to be made in the US this year (and the Ford Mach-E, an “American” car which will be made China and assembled in Mexico). (The Volkswagen ID.4 is expected to go into production in Tennessee next year.) The transition to electric cars appears to be well underway in the US.

3. California was powered 94.5% by renewables in April. The goal of 100% now seems well within the state’s capacity long before its 2045 goal. The Biden administration’s goal of 100% nationally by 2035 seems within reach. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/california-blazes-a-trail-with-95-percent-renewable-energy/ar-BB1gr50o
Germany, Iceland, Denmark, Norway, Portugal, and Costa Rica have all been 100% renewably powered for varying lengths of time. https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2015/12/have-any-countries-achieved-100-renewable-power/
For Portugal: https://qz.com/1245048/portugal-generated-enough-renewable-energy-to-power-the-whole-country-in-march/
For Germany: https://www.cleanenergywire.org/news/renewables-cover-about-100-german-power-use-first-time-ever#:~:text=Renewables%20cover%20about%20100%25%20of%20German%20power%20use,for%20the%20first%20time%20ever%20on%201%20January. There are probably others besides small island nations.

4. China now emits more greenhouse gasses than the entire membership of the OECD combined. China produces 27% of the global total. The US is second with 11%. https://phys.org/news/2021-05-china-emissions-world-combined.html
