1. England’s Bella Lack, 19 and a climate activist since she was 12, tells stories of other young activists in her book The Children of the Anthropocene. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/aug/14/whats-the-alternative-to-give-up-environmentalist-bella-lack-the-new-queen-of-green

2. A team at MIT is developing a plan to construct a vast bubble array in space to block about 1.8% of sunlight, reversing post-industrial warming. The plan requires solving some difficult problems and has the potential for adverse consequences. Among them is the moral hazard of encouraging the continued use of fossil fuels. https://scitechdaily.com/in-case-of-climate-emergency-deploying-space-bubbles-to-block-out-the-sun/#:~:text=%E2%80%9CSpace%20Bubbles%E2%80%9D%20%E2%80%93%20The%20Deflection,surface%E2%80%94hence%20combatting%20climate%20change.

3. As bats, bees, butterflies, and other pollinators decline, a third of our food is at increasing risk. Fruits and vegetables are at the greatest risk. Last month saw the monarch butterfly added to the endangered list. https://www.cnn.com/2022/08/14/weather/food-risk-bee-butterfly-pollinator-decline-climate-scn/index.html

4. An Australian story sketches the 11 top countries in the transition to renewable energy. We’re not there yet but now we are in the field competing. https://www.climatecouncil.org.au/11-countries-leading-the-charge-on-renewable-energy/

5. Climate refugees are popping up all over the US—not just on the borders—as our own citizens find that their regions are becoming uninhabitable. We need to anticipate and plan for the relocations, which will be massive. https://climatecrocks.com/2022/08/15/climate-refugees-a-trickle-now-soon-to-be-a-flood/

6. Jeff Goodell provides a canny reflection on the prospects for backing out of the climate crisis now that we have the Inflation Reduction Act. https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-features/climate-change-inflation-reduction-act-biden-enough-1397313/#recipient_hashed=fe17c36079354ec46082a9a7c8fc19c8d3b811c991613e650512e53c322cb659

7. Diet is the personal change most likely to have the greatest impact on our climate. I have been vegan for several years and am a family cook. I have collected my recipes for the seven more or less vegan local members of my family in Vegan Offerings: A Plant-Based, Mostly Whole Foods, Gluten-Free, Low-Oxalate, Low-Salt Repertoire for the Complicated Family. It is just now available from Amazon in paperback and Kindle forms. The Kindle version does not have an interactive index; the paperback is easiest to read and use. https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0B9QRLTSC/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1JXQ2JRV6R6HW&keywords=vegan+offerings&qid=1660663619&s=books&sprefix=vegan+offerings%2Cstripbooks%2C154&sr=1-1
