1. Banks are players in the climate crisis. Some, such as HSBC, Europe’s largest bank, will no longer fund the expansion of fossil fuels. Others, such as the largest in the US—Chase, Citi, Wells Fargo, and Bank of America—use the money deposited in them to fund expansion of companies which ensure the destruction of large parts of the world. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/mar/16/us-banks-climate-crisis-redlining-poor-communities

2. Branches of the four banks named above will be the target of pickets and sit-ins on March 21 with 100 demonstrations in 29 states, organized by fifty environmental and justice groups. Some of the older activists plan to sit in rocking chairs. https://billmckibben.substack.com/p/come-together-illustrated?utm_source=substack&publication_id=438146&post_id=109440512&utm_medium=email&utm_content=share&triggerShare=true&isFreemail=false

3. The prime minister of Samoa has urged the world’s nations to act now to preserve island nations from rising seas and storms. The president of the COP 26 summit said that financing climate action is the key. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2023/mar/19/samoa-pm-fiame-naomi-mataafa-urges-world-to-save-pacific-people-from-climate-crisis-obliteration

4. Jeff Berardelli does a one minute and thirty-nine second report on the global weather for the rest of the year. https://climatecrocks.com/2023/03/19/jeff-berardelli-on-record-ocean-heat-and-global-temps-for-2023/

5. Correction: The last news list reported that the NASA satellite data indicated a 50% increase in sea level rise rate per decade. That should have been ~33%. James Hanson has promised a paper soon on how much sea level rise is in prospect.
