1. Georgia and Massachusetts (!) are collaborating to support vanadium flow batteries for storing grid-scale renewable energy. With an expected life of 20 years, close to the life of solar and wind installations, and a target of $.05/kWh by 2030, vanadium flow batteries provide many hours more storage capacity than Li-ion batteries. The article makes the case in brief that the current administration will probably be unsuccessful in forcing the continued use of fossil fuels for energy. https://cleantechnica.com/2025/02/05/new-flow-battery-venture-joins-red-blue-states-in-common-cause/
2. Still, the Trump administration appears to be blocking permits at the federal level for new renewable energy. (It may proceed anyway.) https://heatmap.news/plus/the-fight/spotlight/renewables-permitting-chaos
3. We may well have reached and begun to exceed the 1.5C limit of heating. One effect will be to release methane from thawing Arctic tundra. We may expect changes which will require our adaptation, including increased heat and sea level rise. "Don't give up, even in the face of change," Schuur said. "Instead, change your thinking. Say to yourself: I live in a new, changed world. What can I do to help adapt and slow the change so we have more time to adjust?" https://phys.org/news/2025-02-arctic-meltdown-global.html
4. I have attached a list of research on the Planetary Health Diet. The diet does what it means to do—markedly improve our health while making it possible to deal with the climate crisis.
