Subject: Paid National Park Service Historian Internship Opportunity in Charleston, SC

Hello,

Please share the following with current and former students and whoever else may be interested:

Charles Pinckney National Historic Site and Fort Sumter and Fort Moultrie National Historical Park are looking to host three National Council for Preservation Education (NCPE) intern this summer. These positions are our Inclusive Storytelling History Research Internships located in Mount Pleasant, SC (onsite at Charles Pinckney NHS). One research project each will focus on African American history, women’s history, and LGBTQ+ history within Charleston and the Lowcountry. Each internship addresses one part of the critical FOSU and CHPI deferred storytelling backlog. The position is for 800 hours (full time for 20 weeks) at $20.50 an hour. Additionally, our position includes paid time off (PTO), a housing allowance, and a travel stipend. We have committed to easing the cost burden for prospective interns as much as possible since this is an onsite position. Lastly, interns will qualify for the Public Land Corps (PLC) federal hiring authority with the completion of these internships. More information for the duties and qualification requirements for this position and the link to apply are available at Inclusive Storytelling History Research Intern – 800 hours<https://preservenet.org/job/national-park-service-ncpe-internship-program-mount-pleasant-sc-full-time-inclusive-storytelling-history-research-intern-800-hours/>.

To be eligible, applicants must be currently enrolled in a degree-seeking academic program or recently graduated (within the past 12 months) and be a U.S. Citizen or permanent U.S. resident. Both undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to apply, however, a history, public history, women and gender studies, or African American studies background is required. Other applicant requirements can be found at https://preservenet.org/ncpe-internships/.

The application for this internship is due February 15, 2024!

NCPE internships are a great way to begin a career in cultural resources with the National Park Service. Current or former students who are interested in this internship can feel free to email me at krista_pollett at nps.gov for more information about the history program and/or what it is like to work for the NPS in the Charleston area.

My best,
Krista
