1. Swiss voters have approved a plan to phase out the nuclear plants which now generate a third of the country's power and replace them with renewables and negawatts (efficiency savings). The cost will be about $41/year for Swiss families. https://www.businessgreen.com/bg/news/3010503/swiss-voters-back-anti-nuclear-pro-green-energy-plans Further details describe the plans to reduce energy consumption of buildings 43% and to increase wind and solar fourfold by 2035. Opponents claimed the cost would be $3,290 a year for a family. http://www.reuters.com/article/us-swiss-energy-idUSKBN18H0HM?feedType=RSS//u0026feedName=environmentNews//u0026utm_source=feedburner//u0026utm_medium=feed//u0026utm_campaign=Feed%3A+reuters%2Fenvironment+%28News+%2F+US+%2F+Environment%29

2. A survey finds that 84% of the people in the US, China, India, Britain, Australia, Brazil, South Africa, and Germany consider climate change a "global catastrophic risk" and are willing to make changes in their lives to cope with it. http://www.reuters.com/article/us-climatechange-risk-survey-idUSKBN18J36O

3. A reassessment of modern sea level rise rates finds that rate from 1902-1990 was less than had been thought, and tripled from 1990-2012-from about .4 inches/decade to 1.2 inches/decade. Rates since 2012 were not estimated. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/energy-environment/wp/2017/05/22/scientists-say-the-rate-of-sea-level-rise-has-nearly-tripled-since-1990/?tid=ss_tw&utm_term=.c2c6b3e16b0d

4. Rainfall is expected to be 15% more intense for every degree of warming. http://climatenewsnetwork.net/climate-models-extreme-rainfall/?utm_source=Climate+News+Network&utm_campaign=824e602ffb-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2017_05_24&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_1198ea8936-824e602ffb-38803053

5. New York State's grid modernization efforts include new incentives for utilities to support efficiency and provisions to attract partnerships between utilities and private investment in areas such a power storage and load management-generally, in facilitating the integration of renewable energy. https://insideclimatenews.org/news/24052017/new-york-renewable-energy-electrical-grid-solar-wind-energy-coal-natural-gas

6. On June 1 the largest coal plant in New England, the last coal plant in Massachusetts, will close. Globally, fossil fuel power production is falling, including oil and gas power. http://www.climateactionprogramme.org/news/massachusetts-last-coal-plant-to-close-next-month?utm_source=Feeds&utm_campaign=News&utm_medium=rss ?
