1. The Trump administration's attempts to do away with the Clean Power Plan are partly countered by states' efforts to control emissions. http://e360.yale.edu/features/as-trump-retreats-states-are-stepping-up-on-climate-action

The Clean Power Plan is already on hold under a court mandate, and the legal tangles are likely to continue under a regime which has announced no plans to control carbon emissions as required by Supreme Court decisions. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/energy-environment/wp/2017/10/09/pruitt-tells-coal-miners-he-will-repeal-power-plan-rule-tuesday-the-war-on-coal-is-over/?utm_term=.5b1d3a44e409

The EPA has not proposed a new plan. Instead, it has asked for public comment on unnamed plans which it might submit, while asserting overestimates of the costs of the transition from carbon fuels and underestimating the benefits. The intent seems to be to stall any action at all. http://www.motherjones.com/environment/2017/10/theres-more-to-scott-pruitts-attack-on-obamas-climate-reg-than-meets-the-eye/

2. The Trump administration's environmental sabotage amounts to attempts by fossil fuel corporations to maintain their profits with public money when the economic current is running against them and the public interest lies entirely in the opposite direction. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/climate-consensus-97-per-cent/2017/oct/09/trumps-plan-to-bail-out-failing-fossil-fuels-with-taxpayer-subsidies-is-perverse

3. Michael Mann and cartoonist Tom Toles have collaborated on The Madhouse Effect-How Climate Denial is Threatening Our Planet (Columbia UP). The book, which reprises the climate situation, is unlikely to have much news for list members, but I find that anything which recalls me to reality strengthens me. https://cleantechnica.com/2017/10/09/madhouse-effect-cleantechnica-book-report/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+IM-cleantechnica+%28CleanTechnica%29

4. The US Midwest will not suffer directly from sea level rise, drought-driven wildfires, or hurricanes, but it is subject to heat, storms, and heavy rains which will degrade roads, rails, bridges, and power transmission infrastructure. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-midwest-climate-infrastructure-20171010-story.html

5. Caribbean leaders met with UN Secretary-General Ant?nio Guterres to discuss how to transform their ravaged islands into models of climate resilience. http://www.miamiherald.com/news/nation-world/world/americas/article178083046.html

6. King tides come to Florida in the fall for a cocktail of reasons: water temperature, air pressure, the flow rate of the Gulf Stream, and celestial coordination are among them. https://www.livescience.com/60648-king-tides-flood-florida-streets.html ?
