1. Quanta Magazine has published an unusually full and well-illustrated account of the development of climate science, How We Came to Know the Earth. Its lively and beautiful interactive displays ease you through the three hours reading time. One of its lessons is how destructive the Trump administration has become to the progress and future of our planet- and self-saving knowledge. https://www.quantamagazine.org/how-we-came-to-know-earth-20250915/?mc_cid=b873ae9e4b&mc_eid=4a3ab8e4b5

2. Sheldon Inyanda of Indian Engineering Solutions in Kenya has developed the PyroTower, which uses solar power to produce biochar from agricultural waste. It can make about a ton of biochar in eight hours and may be dissembled for moving and reassembled in two hours. The PyroTower costs about $15,000—about 100 times less than standard commercial biochar producers. The worker-owned cooperative PlantVillage+ is distributing the PyroTower to communities in the developing world. “The mission of PlantVillage+ is to eradicate poverty and reverse climate change.” https://grist.org/climate/this-new-machine-churns-out-carbon-storing-biochar-on-the-cheap/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=newsletter&utm_campaign=daily

3. A study of 23,000 Britons over a 20 year period confirms that following the Planetary Health Diet lowers the risk of developing type 2 diabetes and reduces greenhouse gas emissions. https://medicalxpress.com/news/2025-09-sustainable-based-diet-benefits-human.html?utm_source=nwletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=daily-nwletter
